Welcome to the Dual Immersion class!

Hello I'm Lucía Otálora, I'm the Spanish teacher in the Dual Immersion class in First Grade at North Newton Elementary School. It's a pleasure to bring to your children some of the culture of my country, which is Colombia. This is my tenth year as a teacher and my fifth at NNES.

I'm teacher because I believe we can build a better future for the generations to come. Also, I think each kid is able to reach their own goals if they get support and opportunities. I am looking forward to a great year 2020/21.

If you have questions, comments or concerns, you can always reach me by e-mail irma.otalora@n-ccs.org or if you have an emergency situation you may call the school at 828-464-2631.

I believe all students have the ability to control their behavior and are capable of making correct, positive and responsible choices. I expect my classroom will be filled with lots of love, laughter and learning. In order to succeed, we all must give 100% effort on a daily basis. To achieve that, we all created our classroom vision for this year:

"We come to North Newton Elementary to learn because we want to make our brains smarter, by learning English, Spanish and Math. That way, we will have the job of our dreams and we will help people."

Also, we have created a classroom code:

  1. I will have my school supplies ready for the day.
  2. I will work hard everyday.
  3. I will be a good friend.
  4. I will keep my hands to myself and wear a mask everyday.
  5. I will speak Spanish in Mrs Otalora's room.

  • Reading: Read a book in Spanish on Raz-kids everyday.
  • High Frequency Words: Practice your words everyday. They will be able to read them, write them and say a sentence using them,
