School Counseling

Welcome to the North Newton Elementary School Counseling program!

The mission of the North Newton School Counseling program is to provide all students with an engaging, rigorous curriculum as part of a data-driven, comprehensive school counseling program that fosters academic, career, and personal/social growth in a safe, caring environment.

Through collaboration with teachers, administrators, parents, and the community, the counseling program will help all students reach their potential as collaborative, effective communicators and productive citizens in a global world.

Meet your Counselor

My name is Robyn Honer and I am so excited to be a part of the North Newton family. I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with my Bachelor's in Psychology and Spanish (Go Heels!) and earned my Master's in School Counseling from Appalachian State University (Go 'Neers!) as well as my National Certified Counselor (NCC) credential from the National Board for Certified Counselors. In my spare time, I enjoy painting and art, reading and doing research, and playing with my two cats.

As a school counselor, I deliver classroom lessons, lead small groups, provide short-term individual counseling throughout the school year. When working with students, I use an integrative approach that includes solution-focused brief therapy, child-centered play therapy, and expressive art techniques. I am the McKinney Vento Homeless and 504 coordinator at North for students who may benefit from those services. I work closely with our community to run assistance programs (i.e., the Backpack Program, the Angel Tree Program, etc.) and connect students and their families to resources both in our school and in the community.

Please reach out to Ms. Honer if you have any questions or concerns. You can reach me via phone at 828-464-2631, via email at, or via Class Dojo.
